So I was surfing the internet, as we all do sometimes, and came across an odd
article. Now, ever since I was about a sophomore or junior in high school, I've had facial hair of some kind. I've sported a "Van Dyke" for as long as I remember, and now I'm attempting a short cropped beard. I haven't gone for a long beard (although sometimes I have purely from laziness) and that's not for me, although some people can pull it off (Tommy Moreland, Jesse Davis, etc.). This article, though, shows the biblical perspective...sort of... You should have a look at it and read it all the way through, and you'll understand what I mean.
Read this example of an interpretation that was given of John 4:34.
"What was the purpose of Jesus’ coming: 'Jesus said to them, My meat is to do the will of him that sent me, and to finish his work.' The purpose of Jesus’ coming was to live a perfect human life; perfect in every way, totally in line with His Father’s will so to be a perfect sacrifice to atone the Sins of His people. Would the perfect man Jesus shave off what God, His Father, had given Him as a man? Unthinkable, only to consider that Jesus would sin in rejecting His Father’s gift, even to consider that is an offence to our Master and Saviour."
LOL. So...he's saying that having a beard is a main part of living a perfect human life. I *think* that God had more important things in mind when he sent his son to die on a cross...but hey, everything's subject to interpretation right? I mean, what if we're all really missing the point...forget "moral living," "The Ten Commandments," "going to Heaven to be with Him in infinite bliss forever..."
God sent his only begotten son to show us how to wear facial hair correctly. Now here are some great quotes.
"All the above variations of beards [referring to the diagrams] are not Biblical, but at least the difference between man and woman, as demanded by God, is being attempted to be shown, as compared to clean-shaven."
"When we men follow the world and shave, breaking God's Commandment, we are actually defiling ourselves."I
love this one.
"There was no mistaking Jesus for a woman in His day. Let there be no mistaking of us as men in ours."
